I ran across an interesting report the other day that I’d like to share with you.
It’s from the Department of Regulatory Agencies, part of the state government that oversees insurance. The report lists every automobile insurance company licensed to sell policies in Colorado in 2008 (the most current year for data), each company’s market share, and how many consumer complaints have been filed against it.
This year, the state added a column called the Complaint Index – for the first time giving an idea of how each auto insurer compares to all the other insurers. An index of 1.0 or higher indicates complaints against the company are higher than average; lower than 1.0 means complaints are lower than average.
I didn’t find that there were a lot of surprises. But then again, when you’re a personal injury attorney and work for people who have been injured in a car accident, you tend to run into the same insurance companies over and over. We see the good, the bad and the ugly. Some are decent to work with, some not so decent – and some are downright awful. One thing we see more often than not, is that insurance companies are not looking out for you, they’re looking out for their bottom lines. It’s why you need an attorney who knows how to fight insurers on their turf.
I have a copy of the report, if you’d like to see it. Email me at DLS@dlslawfirm.com.
