I had my fifth birthday yesterday. (No, I’m not that young, but thank you anyway.) On April 1, 2005, I officially incorporated The Law Offices of Dianne Sawaya, LLC. There were no balloons or cake, and no celebration – at least none that I’m aware of. If my staff was partying, I missed it. I was with a client arguing her case before a judge.
I’ve been a lawyer for nearly 30 years, and have been working as a personal injury attorney for 20 of those years. Five years ago I took a big leap of faith and started my own firm, and I’ve never regretted it. Having my own specialty firm has given me the freedom and ability to do what is most important to me – advocate for the needs of clients facing serious injuries and hostile insurance companies.
I think spending my birthday with a judge says a lot about how we view what we do. Early in my firm’s history we developed a phrase we use a lot: Smart. Aggressive. Compassionate. It’s a catchy phrase that we’ve been using for almost five years, but it’s much more than a slogan. It truly reflects how all of us at the firm view our mission of making a difference in the lives of people who have been injured through no fault of their own.
Five years have gone by quickly, but you can be sure of this – I’ll send you an invitation to a real party when we celebrate my 10th birthday.
